As the Deyr seasonal rains continue across parts of Somalia, concerns over potential El Niño-related flooding are growing, particularly among vulnerable communities in Bakool Region.
These photographs and videos, documented by Abdihakiin Mukhtar, NASDO’s Focal Point in Bakool Region, on 13 October 2026 in the Bulow area of Xudur District, show accumulated rainwater and highlight the importance of early preparedness and continued monitoring.
While seasonal rainfall brings hope to farming communities, it also raises concerns for families whose homes, livelihoods, and access to essential services may be at risk.
NASDO is actively preparing and planning for potential El Niño-related impacts, with particular emphasis on strengthening community awareness, monitoring emerging risks, and ensuring that early warning and preparedness information reaches vulnerable households and communities.
Through continued field engagement and coordination, NASDO remains committed to promoting timely preparedness, raising awareness, and supporting collective efforts to protect communities across Somalia.
