Education and health training

NASDO’s mission names education alongside health and livelihoods. The work is practical: clinic rooms that double as teaching spaces, and community sessions that give families knowledge they can use at home.

In October 2023 Executive Director Abdulrahman Mohamed Hassan met Prof. Dr. Mohamed M. Hassan (Biday), rector of Benadir University. The two organisations agreed to cooperate so health-science students can train in NASDO’s practical facilities — not only in lecture halls.

Staff capacity is built the same way. NASDO completed Save the Children’s five-day Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies curriculum, and joined localization workshops so Somali NGOs lead more of the Nutrition, WASH, and Education cluster response.

What this looks like in practice

• Partnership with Benadir University for health-science practical training
• IYCF-E and nutrition curriculum training with Save the Children Somalia
• Community education on health, nutrition, and hygiene in Mogadishu and Jowhar
• Participation in Education cluster localization planning
