Nolol Awareness and Social Development O

Nolol Awareness and Social Development Organization (NASDO) has organized a workshop on awareness of Coronavirus (Covid-19) in Mogadishu on Sunday March 13, 2020.

About 200 participants from the community members in Abdiaziz and Gubadley as well as representatives from the internal displaced people, students and women leaders.

The workshop, which was implemented by #NASDO, to raise the level of awareness within the community so that the local population toward the deadly virus that has spread in many parts of the world.

There are no confirmed cases in Somalia yet but some of the neighboring countries have reported several cases of confirmed Coronavirus. The director of NASDO, Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Hassan has said that it was good for the local community in Mogadishu to understand about the spread of the virus and the best way to prevent it.

The participants, including health staff from the health centres, thanked NASDO for organizing the workshop.

“I did not know much about Coronavirus despite hearing it on the media. Today I know it well and I am prepared to prevent it by improving the personal hygiene of myself and of my family,” said Mumino Ali Haji, a 73-years-old from the Marina IDP camp who attended the workshop.

“This workshop was really important ant a timely. Somali people are worried about the Coronavirus spread in the region. Our health sector is still poor and we pray to God to protect us from this deadly virus. But we have to be aware of it so that we can prevent our lives well,” Farhiya Hussein Ali, charwoman of Neero Sub-location in Abdiazis District told the participants after attending the workshop on Sunday.

NASDO Director, Mr Abdirahman noted lack of clean water for drinking, poor sanitation and lack of enough toilets for the IDP camps are the key concerns currently facing the community in Abdiaziz District. He said the community has already made appeal on this.

“We have heard the local community’s appeal and we are trying to consult with the donors and the Federal Government of Somalia so that your request will be better taken care of,” Mr. Abdirahman adds.
